Google Technology
Millions of people use Google daily to satisfy their wants, needs, fears, and obsessions. Google, an online service that most users in the world use, has transformed into a successful and growing business. There is a lot of unorganized information on the internet and Google is the service that kicks in and helps storing them in a network database. Whenever one searches for an item that matches the item in the database, Google will show a list of related items and provide links to direct to the topic. This service is very user friendly and very easy to use.
Google has had massive affects on all aspects of human beings’ lives. Over the past ten years Google has developed as the dominant site for searching the web and finding what people need. The number of searches it handles has grown astronomically. In 1998, Google reported that it handled 10,000 searches a day. Google does not share those numbers publicly, but research group score estimates that Google hosted 235 million searches in one year.
The technology is considered a big change. Google’s technology has emerged from a series of continuous improvements. It has been able to achieve over its competitors because of its technology being Developed and Adaptive. The following points can be listed under it: Google’s use of item or “white box” hardware in its data centers is a hint of Google’s hacker ethos. Google technology represents a building block approach to large-scale systems. Its computational framework delivers amazing performance from low-cost hardware. Google has taken programming ideas form a number of sources and its technology is actually a product of fusion. The mantra of Google is, “Cheap Hardware and Smart Software”.
Google Search is fast with most results coming back to the user in less than one second. The life span of a Google normally lasts less than a second, yet involves a number of different steps that must be completed before results can be delivered to a person seeking information. The Effects of this Technology is that people are able to save time on going to libraries and reading rooms to find information on any issues. Google is one massive library, which can be accessed by sitting at home or anywhere that has internet connections.” Google recently launched Earth Outreach as part of an effort to provide non-profit and public benefit organizations the knowledge and resources they need to reach hearts and minds in the ongoing struggle to raise awareness about global warming and climate change.“(Alternative Energy, 2008). It has enabled people to connect to each other through its social networking ability. People have been able to reunite with their school and college friends, even after ten to forty years. Performing two Google searches from a desktop computer can generate about the same amount of carbon dioxide as boiling a kettle for a cup of tea, according to a new research. Google is secretive about its energy consumption and carbon footprint. It also refuses to divulge the locations of its data centre. However, with more than 200m internet searches estimated globally daily, the electricity consumption and greenhouse gas emissions caused by computers and the internet are provoking concern. A recent report by Gartner, the industry analyst, said that “the global IT industry generated as much greenhouse gas as the world’s airlines – about 2% of global CO2 emissions” (Gartner, 2006). “Data centre are among the most energy-intensive facilities imaginable,” (Evan Mills, 2007) a scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California. Banks of servers storing billions of web pages require power.
The API is a tool that allows third parties developer to develop applications and services on top of and with Google Analytics, extending its functionality much more user friendly, such as the IPhone nowadays. API enables others to create interesting applications for the device. Under the reference of Google, the students have stopped doing their assignments and look for quick and readymade work. People have stopped moving out of their homes and meeting their friends and family because of the availability of social networking options. This has weakened the family relationships and bonds. There is also very little physical activity because of the availability of everything online. This has led to an increased incident of obesity among the people. Google has been acting as a very efficient and transparent intermediary between the users and services. Google has brought a change in the political landscape of the world and particularly of America. Google also has blogs on various issues of social responsibility. Moreover, Google has emerged in a way, a one stop solution for all the problems of people. So, the technology has both negative and positive effects. The negative effects can be reversed by taking the unethical and unhealthy contents out of Google. Google needs to create awareness among the people about exercising and spending quality time with family and friends, etc. It should also make sure that people are not made handicapped, by providing everything they need at one place.
Nowadays Google has taken a big spot in the network. However, one of the Google biggest competitions is Facebook, and this is also the reason why Google wants to buy Facebook but Facebook refused their offer. Facebook is the biggest socialization network that gathers everyone information into one webpage. The most powerful function in Facebook is each other knows if they have the same friends. Also, there’s also an online chat in the webpage so people can communicate each other instantly. Also, once Facebook invent or developed a more advanced search engine that can search more accurate and relate results, then most people will only use Facebook as their homepage instead of Google. People will prefer to use and stay at one homepage all the time instead of going to other website to start their new search. Facebook will overcome Google if Google do not find a way to improve their webpage and Facebook will become a united webpage with combines of the most advanced social network and search engine. The war between Facebook and Google will begin.
